Royal Patronage

The King, Queen and other members of the Royal family offer their patronage to over 1000 organisations and charities. The first recorded patronage was King George II’s (1683 – 1760) involvement with the Society of Antiquaries.

While the National Hedgelaying Society can’t claim such a long standing association (the NHLS only being founded in 1978), His Majesty The King does have a historical link with the society through his personal interest in hedgelaying and his patronage of the society as HRH The Prince of Wales from the early 2000’s.

In the past, the NHLS have been fortunate to have hedgelaying competitions hosted  by the King at various sites.

On his ascension to the throne in September 2022, the King began a review process of both his patronages and legacy patronages which passed down from the Late Queen.

It was with great pleasure that our Chairperson, Joe, received a letter earlier this year from Buckingham Palace, confirming that His Majesty The King would retain his patronage of the National Hedgelaying Society.

As a society, this honour is highly valued by our members and we are sincerely grateful to the King for his ongoing support and interest in hedgelaying.
