Joining the National Hedgelaying Society

Membership Benefits

The opportunity to become a member of the National Hedgelaying Society (NHLS)  is open to anyone with an interest in hedgerows. Hedgerows are essential in sustaining and protecting both our environment and a wealth of wildlife that rely upon hedgerows for food and shelter. You can help us conserve our environment, our wildlife and our countryside heritage using the traditional craft of hedgelaying.

There are several types of annual subscription available providing a range of benefits:

  • Newsletter published three times per year
  • Free entry to the NHLS National Championship
  • Access to a wealth of information and advice on hedgerows
  • Links with local groups and national conservation organisations
  • Opportunities for training and education events across the UK
  • Access to a network of like minded people

Subscription Types

Individual Membership

Standard NHLS membership is £25 per annum.

Contractor Membership

Contractor membership costs £125 per annum.

This includes an entry on the Find a Hedgelayer page on the NHLS web site.

Affiliated Group

The Affiliate membership programme has been designed to support your hedgelaying organisation in running events and we welcome the opportunity of discussing your specific requirements. Please contact us for for further information. 

Affiliate membership costs £75 per annum and provides the following additional benefits:

  • Entitlement to nominate one person to represent the group at Society meetings
  • Use of the Society’s insurance cover for hedgelaying events
  • Multiple copies of the Society Newsletter for all group members (Number to be agreed in each case)
  • Entitlement to use the Society’s “Affiliated Member” badge (right) on printed material and online
  • Use of the NHLS website to publicise training courses and other events.

Student (under 21)

Student membership is open to any person under 21 years at the time of application and is free of charge.
