National Championships 2024

Would you like the opportunity to watch the traditional craft of hedgelaying at competition standard?

Witness a long, straggly, gappy hedge become transformed into a strong, dense hedge which will burst into new life after the laying process.

With skills developed over many years, the hedgelayers will cut into the stems of the hedgerow trees to such a degree you might at first think it is unrecoverable, but in a year or two, the newly laid hedge will be green, dense and strong, hosting and supporting wildlife for another 50 years or so before the process needs revisiting.

The 45th National Hedgelaying Championship is taking place on Saturday 26th October 2024 by kind permission of Mrs and Mrs John Fenton at Elmswell Farms in Driffield.

Ten local styles of hedgelaying will be demonstrated on the day along with a range of other craft stands, activities and food.

Ticket price, on the day is £10 per person, which includes parking. Alternatively, admittance is free with a current membership which costs £25. Check out our membership benefits here.
